Threats

The water sector's operational technology faces growing cyber threats. Awareness and prepardedness remain low, while the potential impact of a cyberattack is immense. ATHENA was created to adress this challenge. Named after the Greek Goddess of wisdom and strategy, ATHENA is not an acronym but a symbol of the values of intelligence, skill and protection that guide this European cyber resilience project.

Awareness program

ATHENA develops an EU-wide cyber-risk awareness program, tailored for professionals working with the operational technology. In close cooperation with 9 European partners, the project delivers innovative, science-based training modules that simulate real-world cyberattacks on critical systems. Using Virtual Reality, gamification, and interactive tools, ATHENA trains operators and leaders to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to detect, respond to, and prevent cyber incidents, strengthenig resilience across the water industry and beyond.
